What We Offer

Homeopathy is the second most popular system of healing in the world, used by over 30 million people in Europe alone. In 2005, the World Health Organization estimated that homeopathy is the fastest growing healthcare modality in the world with more than half a billion users. It is over 200 years old, was introduced to the U.K. by Dr Quin in 1828, is sanctioned by the UK government and has been an integral part of the National Health Service (NHS) since 1948. In a report on complementary and alternative therapies published by the House of Lords in November 2000, homeopathy is considered as one of five 'group one' therapies (out of thirty examined) judged to have convincing research evidence of effectiveness that should be more widely available on the NHS.

Homeopathy is a gentle, holistic system of healing that uses very dilute doses of carefully prepared medicines that have been tested on healthy consenting human volunteers. It is based on the principle of 'like cures like' i.e. an illness is treated with a remedy that, in homeopathic clinical trials, has been found to produce similar symptoms in a healthy person. For example, coffee is widely used as a stimulant, but in homeopathic form it can help ameliorate insomnia.

A safe and effective treatment

Remedies are non-toxic and carry no risk of harmful side effects or addiction. Treatment is gentle, safe and effective and is therefore especially suitable for pregnant women, children and newborns. It is much more effective than placebo, as can be seen by it's success with infants and animals.

Who can benefit?

When, in 2005, the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital surveyed 6,500 patients with diverse complaints over six years, 70% reported improvement in their symptoms and well-being for conditions that had not responded to conventional treatment. Meanwhile, iatrogenic (pharmaceutical drug induced) disease, remains one of the leading causes of death. Increasingly, therefore, concerned about the long-term effects of repeated courses of drugs such as antibiotics, steroids and anti-depressants, people are turning to homeopathy. Instead of creating more symptoms as side effects, homeopathy addresses the underlying causes of ill-health by stimulating the immune system to resolve illness naturally from within.

Since homeopathy works holistically, it can benefit almost anyone, with acute illness such as sore throats, or with long standing chronic illness such as eczema. It can ameliorate emotional as well as physical complaints or be used preventatively in situations where you are feeling run down or where tests show nothing abnormal but you still feel unwell. Some people choose to use it alongside other forms of healthcare; others use it as an alternative. In one clinic providing homeopathy, acupuncture and chiropractic, 87% of patients reported reducing or stopping prescribed medication; 76% saw their GP less, and some no longer required hospital treatment (Impact Integrated Medicine Partnership 2006 Annual Report).

Typical conditions improved include:

  • skin complaints
  • arthritis
  • after effects of injury and accidents
  • stress, anxiety, and panic attacks
  • grief
  • allergies
  • infertility
  • menstrual and hormonal problems
  • pregnancy and birth complaints
  • childhood diseases

Homeopathy can also be very useful to those who have suffered a deep emotional trauma from events such as war, rape, violence, bereavement or relationship breakdown.

What to Expect?

A holistic and individual approach

In homeopathy, we tend not to have a standard treatment for any one particular condition. The homeopathic approach is to treat each individual as a whole person, not just a disease. Therefore I will not only be interested in your symptoms but also in the kind of person you are. Information about your emotional state and disposition will most often be the key to choosing the homeopathic prescription.

In my experience, homeopathy has the potential to be a catalyst for restoring balance from within, rather than be an external suppression or manipulation of symptoms. I therefore consider patient involvement as a central component of treatment, and enjoy working collaboratively with each individual, seeking together to raise levels of health, restoring well-being, safely and effectively.

The first consultation will last 90 minutes. Subsequent consultations are 45-60 minutes and can take place every 3-6 weeks, depending on how you respond and what it is you are being treated for.

Remedies are not usually prescribed at the first consultation but will be posted within 10 days. Typically the remedy will be in tablet form (sugar tasting) that is allowed to dissolve under the tongue. A homeopathic prescription can consist of one or several tablets, or it may be in liquid form.

Duration of treatment

How long you can expect to be in treatment depends on a number of factors, including: your medical history, the severity and duration of your symptoms, and how you respond to the remedies. In general, homeopathy does not work as a one-off treatment for chronic conditions as most patients need a course of treatment. However, improvement can be swift.
